FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you use disposable needles?  Yes. To provide the highest level of comfort and safety, only the finest quality, very fine, medical grade disposable needles are utilized in this practice.

Are the needles left in?  For most of the treatments the needles are inserted and removed soon after, upon "arrival of the chi".  Some treatments require the needles to be left in for a few minutes to one half hour, and sometimes longer.  Whenever needles are left in the acupuncturist will remain in the room with you at all times.

Does the needling hurt?  The acupuncture needles used in this practice are as thin as your hair.  You may feel the point of the needle upon insertion. The needling is complete when you feel the "arrival of the chi", often described as an ache or pulling sensation, and sometimes as a burning sensation.

Do you use electrical stimulation, cupping, or moxabustion?  No. Tthese modalities are not used in this practice.

Do you prescribe Chinese herbs?  No. Classical Five Element Acupuncture treats on the constitutional level using a chi based system of diagnosis and treatment (a completely separate discipline from herbal diagnosis and treatment).  When indicated and with the patient's written consent, referrals are made to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners for herbal remedies.
