INFORMATION REGARDING APPOINTMENTS

 

The initial appointment lasts from 1½ to  2 hours and includes a thorough interview and examination.  The first acupuncture session, scheduled after the initial appointment, will last from 1 to 1 ½ hours.

 

The frequency of follow-up sessions is based on the status of each individual’s health.  In many cases this will be one session a week for the first 6 to 10 weeks.  In more complex cases this can be as often as three sessions per week. Follow-up sessions will last from ½ to 1 ½ hours.

 

With improvement, sessions are reduced to once every 10 days, 2 weeks, once a month, and so on.  Ultimately, a “tune-up” at the change of each season helps to maintain optimal health.  Discontinuing care is an option at any time.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

 

Here are 6 important things you can do to help prepare you for your appointments and to maximize the benefits of your sessions.  Both before and after please:

 

1. Plan on 2 to 3 hours for the first appointment (initial intake and examination).

2. Plan on 1 ½ to 2 hours for the second appointment (first acupuncture treatment).

3. Give yourself ample time both before and after every session to relax and allow your treatment to take effect, especially after the first 3 to 5 treatments.

4. Do not drink alcohol or coffee, or use non-prescription drugs for 24 hours before and after each session.

5. Do not push yourself to any extreme for 24 hours after each session.  This includes: no sex, no drugs, no "rock and roll" (meaning no breaking a sweat), no hot tubs, no feasting, no fasting (unless already on a fasting regime).

6. You must be absolutely free of cigarette smoke, exposure to mold, perfume/cologne/hair product/fragrance (including no laundry fragrance) for every appointment.  If you know you are unable to comply with this requirement, you will be referred you to another qualified practitioner.  Anyone who schedules an appointment and does not comply with this requirement will not be seen, and will be charged half of the appointment fee.
